You should always try to write your content for the format of the resource. You can view advice on writing for different types of content below.
Below is a guide to the main styles of pages found in the eLearning template. Images, text, video and links can all be placed in pages so please ensure you provide details of these in the PowerPoint. If there are references simply type (Reference X) next to the part of the text you’re referencing and then in the notes section of the slide, put the reference there. For images, if you have an image already, please insert it into the slide. If you don’t, please provide a link to where it can be downloaded. If you are unsure of where to find images, your first stop should be www.canstockphoto.co.uk. You may be able to find an appropriate image there. If you do, please include the unique code, which can be found on the right hand side under “Stock Photo Information”, in the PowerPoint notes. For videos, please provide a link to the video or provide a location that it can be downloaded from if it is owned by you. These can be created in several different ways depending on the type of information however the writing of them is the same. In the PowerPoint, simply Type the introduction blurb for the slide and then write each heading/date and then what is to appear underneath. Please underline the heading. There are many question types that can be created. For example, single choice questions, multiple choice questions, drag and drop into columns, drag and drop labelling of images, fill in the blanks and longer essay style questions with free text. In the PowerPoint, please enter the type of question into the notes section. If you want answering the questions to count towards tracking whether the learner has answered them correctly and therefore completed the eLearning package, please put a note in the notes section explaining this. Generally, this is not recommended for questions that are there simply as a check on understanding for the learner. Long text answers cannot be automatically marked as correct/incorrect. To write the single and multiple-choice questions, simply type the question and then list the possible responses. Change the font of the CORRECT answers to green and write the feedback. This feedback will appear with the heading correct or incorrect at the top depending on their answer. If you want different feedback for correct or incorrect, please type both and make it clear which is which. For drag and drop into columns, write the question and then list each drag option under the column heading. Please underline the column headings or create this slide as a table. For fill in the blanks, write out the paragraph and highlight which words will need to be entered by changing the font colour. For labelling images/diagrams, please create a simple version of the diagram or provide the image and label it. The labels should be in a different font colour. For longer text entry questions, please type the question. This style of page allows for information that can be grouped together to be presented without requiring the learner to navigate through numerous slides and keeps their focus on the overriding topic. To write these, write the main blurb that introduces the slide and then list the subsections below. This list will be the text that appears on the buttons. Please limit these to 6 per slide. On the next few slides, ensure the title of the slide matches the subsection and write the content. While it is spread out in the PowerPoint, in the eLearning it will be grouped. The majority of pages will be simple text or text with image pages which look similar to these: In this case simply write the content in a plain PowerPoint. Please do not overload the page with text. Spreading large amounts of content over a number of pages is more conducive to learning rather than fewer pages but with large blocks of text.
If you are recording audio or video content, the first step is to write a script. While it may be tempting to just use notes, a script can be used as the basis for developing a transcript which can be offered to students who are not able to hear due to lack of equipment or a disability. The transcript can also be converted into subtitles/captions. For clear audio quality, consider the following: For video please consider the following: Further guidance for recording audio and video can be requested from your Learning Technologist.
Storyboarding an animation is as simple as creating a basic PowerPoint presentation. Each slide will be a scene in the animation. Images should be handled as mentioned in the eLearning section. If animation of elements on the slide need to be implemented, please leave details in the notes section. For example “animate image so that it fades in after 10 seconds” or “image to disappear when voice over says X”.

If you are recording yourself, practice multiple times until you do not have to refer to your script constantly. With audio you can often get away with not practicing as much, however it sounds more natural if you are not reading from a page.
