The development timeline below has been developed based upon 6 years of learning resource development and ensures that the final product is high quality and fit for purpose.
The timings listed should be used as a guide only, however the 16 week lead time is recommended.

| Task | Time required to complete task* | Notes |
| Discuss requirements with LT | 1-2 hours | This discussion is an opportunity to identify the most appropriate delivery method for the envisioned content and for the LT to provide any support required for writing/adapting content. |
| Write content | 4 weeks | The timing of this will depend on if content exists and needs adaption or will be created from scratch. Please note that the content is the most important thing in this stage so look and feel is not required. |
| Initial QA | 3-4 hours | The LT will not be looking at the content in a critical way, their focus is presenting it in the most appropriate way for the student.
A detailed QA at this stage to remove spelling and grammatical errors as well as correct any major content issues is vital to keep the resource development on time. |
| Send content to LT | 1 hour | The format this is sent in will depend on what was agreed in the earlier requirements meeting but will generally be a Word or PowerPoint document. |
| Initial build | 2 weeks (10 working days) | This time will vary depending on the amount of content and the format however 2 weeks is the upper limit on most resources. |
| LT initial QA | 1 hour | This QA is to check functionality only e.g. all buttons and links work in an eLearning. Please note that this does not mean the resource will come back perfect! |
| Initial build QA | 4-5 hours | The initial QA is the first opportunity for the module lead to see the resource in the chosen format and therefore may read quite differently to how it was read in the initial writing and QA. This will usually mean that this QA takes longer than others. |
| Refinement build | 1 week (5 working days) | |
| LT internal QA | 1 hour | |
| Refinement build QA | 1-2 hours | Please note that if there are multiple rounds of QA’s and builds on a resource this time will be repeated for each round. |
| Refinement build | 3 days | Please note that if there are multiple rounds of QA’s and builds on a resource this time will be repeated for each round. |
| Launch | 2 hours |
*There is no set rule for how long it takes to develop a learning resource and therefore the following timings should be used as a guide only. Please contact the Learning Technologist (LT) assigned to the module to discuss requirements and potential timings.
It should be noted that while these times are relatively short for the actual resource development, there should be a large amount of buffer time built into timescales when possible to take into account workloads and other commitments as well as multiple refinement builds. Therefore QA’d content should be sent to the LT no later than 16 weeks before the resource is required by students
